The Duke is a long course - 6,998 yards from the back tees and 5,136 yards from the forward tees. It's also tough and challenging, with uphill approaches to most greens. These situations call for using a longer or bigger club than usual.
Designed by David B. Druzisky, the course's character shines on two holes in particular, the 12th and 13th, because of their dynamic bunker placement and sandy waste areas reminiscent of Pine Valley.
The par 3s seem to be one of the real strengths of this course. The par-3 fifth hole (177 from the back tees and 104 from the forward) is the most photogenic hole at the Duke. It requires a shot to an island green ringed with palm trees. From the back tees, set at 177 yards, you need to carry 120 to 140 yards to get over the water.

Showed up around 11:30 for 12:20 tee time and was informed its back 9 only because several holes were flooded on the front 9. We said we paid for 18 and were told that once we finished the front 9 check back in and they will get us back on the back 9 again. After about a 2.5 hour pace on our 1st 9, we checked back in and "Kim" said it would probably be 45 minutes before we could tee off again. Since it looked like we wouldn't get off again till 3:30 or later, we asked for a 9 hole rain check, since they surprised us with a front 9 closure and we wouldn't be able to finish the back 9. "Kim" said sine we booked as a Hot Deal they couldn't do anything. When I asked for some kind of accommodation, "Kim" said they already had our money and I could just leave if I didn't want to wait
"Kim" should NOT be interacting with customers - she clearly has no customer orientation skills. Have her shag range balls.
This can be a nice course and draw golfers from the Phx area instead of just Maricopa, but unless they learn that the golfers are their paying customers they will continue to struggle.
None of any of our 4 some will be returning and I will use social media to warn other golfers about how they ("Kim") treat customers.
by James hill on June 30th, 2014 08:42I drove my daughter and myself down from Scottsdale Arizona to play a round of golf.my daughter is 5 years old and has been golfing with me now for approximately the last 3 years when we showed up at the course the manager stated my daughter was not 60 years old which she is 5 and she was too young to be on their golf cartwhen app in what was the age requirements of 6 if it had something to do with restrictions on the golf cart I'm so ready to see that third golf carts are that on safe
