The JW Marriott Camelback Golf Club offers two 18-hole courses, the Padre and the Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). Nestled in Paradise Valley, the Ambiente Course enjoys stunning mountain backdrops. The golf course changed its name when it underwent a $10 million renovation that completely transformed the design. The makeover included removing the non-native trees that were obstructing the views of Mummy and Camelback Mountains, the McDowells, and the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. In place of the trees that were removed, more than 1,400 native Acacia trees were added. The topography was completely rebuilt, shaping the formerly flat golf course with rolling hills and contours. The course is more challenging but it's still player friendly enough to both low and high handicappers.
by Zins on March 13th, 2016 14:31AVOID PLAYING THIS COURSE!!! For the price they charge, this place is completely mismanaged! Teed off at 8:00am and it took 5 HOURS to play!
Saw the ranger twice and asked him twice if he spoke to the slow group Causing the delay. His response was that there was nothing he could do!
I understand that it's winter season but 5 hours when starting at 8am is NOT ACCEPTABLE! By mid morning I am sure it turned into a 6 hour round! Waited on EVERY SINGLE SHOT!
by George on February 11th, 2015 13:30This is one of the two world-class courses owned by Marriott. They service private members, Camelback Inn guests, and the public. Ambiente is brand new, a complete bottom up re-design at a cost of $9million, and it's fabulous. There's a new greens superintendent who keeps everything in perfect shape. The location of these courses is ideal; only 15 minutes from the airport and only a few minutes from the heart of Scottsdale. The staff if typically service oriented as is always the case with a Marriott property. Ambiente and Padre (The Camelback courses) are the best golf value in the entire valley. Spectacular views, world class courses in top shape, great staff, and the Camelback Inn for dinner after a day of golf. Five star all the way
by Andrew on July 15th, 2014 21:58Give this course another few years to soften up and it will be the premier links course in AZ (well at least closest to a true). Very challenging. Must stay in the fairways off the tee. Sand bunkers are deep and greens are fast. They just aerated for the first time in June 14 so is playing a little softer. But the ball does roll off the tee box. Will continue to keep in my rotation.
by wfgerard on January 03rd, 2014 13:06The course is average. Nothing special about the fairways, greens, or challenging holes. The greens were in good shape and the fairways were nice too. Truthfully, there are so many places to play in the area, this course would be closer to the bottom of my list to play again.
