Adobe Course at Arizona Biltmore Golf Club in Phoenix: A classic William P. Bell parkland design

PHOENIX -- The Adobe Course at semi-private Arizona Biltmore Golf Club was built in 1928 after chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., hired William P. Bell to design a golf course to go with the "Jewel of the Desert," the Arizona Biltmore Resort.

Now a par 71 measuring 6,430 yards from the back tees, the Adobe Course is one of several dozen courses designed by Bell, whose portfolio also includes Bel-Air Country Club.

One of two courses at Arizona Biltmore Golf Club (the other is the Links Course built in 1978), the Adobe is traditional parkland with a smattering of trees, a few water hazards and bunkers. The traditional push-up greens remain, and many of the holes are parallel, making it difficult to lose a ball.

The club offers practice facilities including a driving range and putting green as well as a full-service restaurant and golf shop in its expansive clubhouse.

The Adobe Course is one of two championship courses at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. Opened in 1928, the course has a traditional design that is both challenging and scenic with wide fairways, tranquil ponds and views of Squaw Peak.
