Arizona Grand Golf Resort in Phoenix boasts captivating desert holes and plenty of variety

PHOENIX -- Arizona Grand Golf Resort boasts one of the more unique settings for a round of golf in the Valley of the Sun.

Opened in 1989 and formerly named Phantom Horse Golf Club, the course was designed by Forest Richardson and plays a par 71, with a maximum yardage of 6,400 yards.

The opening four holes all feature lots of green grass and water hazards, then the middle stretch is more traditional, desert-style target golf. The most dramatic stretch is absolutely the final six holes on the course, which play along South Mountain Park and are the most open and quiet on the course.

Arizona Grand Golf Resort's signature hole is the par-4 13th, which plays uphill past a row of bunkers to an elevated green that features a scenic, natural mountain backdrop. The 18th hole is a par 3 that plays from an elevated tee box back down towards the resort. From this high vantage point, you can see the Phoenix skyline to the left, as well as the McDowell Mountains and Camelback Mountain.

Facilites at Arizona Grand include a driving range, plus a large pro shop, bar area and market. While open to non-resort guests, stay-and-play packages are also available.

Built in 1989, Arizona Grand Golf Course has garnered a reputation as an outstanding Arizona course. Neatly tucked close to South Mountain Park, the blend of traditional links play and desert target golf found at Arizona Grand Resort makes for a challenging and exciting round.
