About 30 minutes south of Tucson, Tubac Golf Resort and Spa is a low-key resort set on 500 acres of Otero Ranch property. It's a convenient base to play some of southern Arizona's best courses like Rio Rico Golf Club, and is usually a bit cooler compared to Tucson to the north.
Tubac Golf Resort and Spa is most famous among golfing circles for having been the set for parts of the movie "Tin Cup," but it's been a popular retreat amongst Tucson and Phoenix residents in particular long before the movie made this little hideaway nationally known. The resort is set amongst a small village with just 98 accommodation units and includes several dining options and a hacienda-style spa, one of the resort's newer additions, featuring a massage staff able to sooth a golfer's aches.
For golf, Tubac Golf Resort and Spa features 27 holes, nine of which are new holes built by Arizona architect Ken Tomlinson in 2006 while the original date back to 1960. Holes play through mature trees and cottonwood forests, and the Anza nine culminates with a daring par-3 shot to an island green, while cows graze along the fence line. The highlight of the course is the new Tubac Triangle on the Rancho nine, which features three holes played through cottonwoods, including the 651-yard eighth hole.
The Tubac Golf Resort sits along the banks of the Santa Cruz River, providing a lush landscape of mature trees and cottonwood groves. The Anza/Rancho golf course is one of three different 18-hole combinations at the resort, which features 27 holes in total.
