PhD (Educational Studies) University of British Columbia, MEd (Community Education), Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh

In the two decades since I completed my PhD I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in many fascinating projects and in universities in three countries: the UK, the US and Canada. Some of the highlights include an EU-funded study of vocational adult education across Europe, managing a massive skills survey in Scotland for the Scottish Government, and a large scale exploration of educational aspirations in deprived areas of the UK. One of my favourite things to do is write books. I have two single-authored books out so far, and am hoping for more in the near future!

I am supervisor for Lee Zhe, PhD student in comparative higher education and on the committee for Constantinos Yanniris, PhD student in environmental education, and Amélie Lemieux, PhD student in arts based language learning.

I am completing a SSHRC funded Partnership Development Grant focused on educational aspirations in three Indigenous communities across Canada.
