Brief Biography

Before beginning university, Dr. Lindgren was a student at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Professional Division. She received her BA (Honours) in English Literature from the University of Victoria, her MA in Dance History from York University and her Ph.D. in Theatre History from the Graduate Centre for Study of Drama at the University of Toronto. She has been a visiting faculty member at the University of Calgary and a Research Visitor at the University of Ottawa’s Institute of Canadian Studies.

Her research and publications have been supported by a variety of funding agencies, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is currently a co-investigator of "Gatherings: Archival and Oral Histories of Canadian Performance," a nation-wide SSHRC-funded Partnership Development Grant. She is also the Dance Subject Editor for the Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism and the General Editor of The Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernist Dance (forthcoming)

Dr. Lindgren was a member of the Executive of the Board of Directors for the Society of Dance History Scholars (a constituent member of the American Council of Learned Societies) from 2007 to 2010. She is currently the Co-Chair of the Program Committee for the 2020 Dance Studies Association conference, which will be held in Vancouver.

As part of her community outreach activities, Dr. Lindgren is the creator and principal researcher for the digita Oral History Dance Project. She has hosted post-show chats for the Canada Dance Festival at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. For Dance Victoria, she has hosted pre-show chats and dance salons, and served on the organization's Board of Director
