Ian Stewart Ice Rink Temporarily Closed

January 15, 2024

The ice rink at Ian Stewart Complex (ISC) was temporarily closed following a minor ammonia release that occurred on Jan. 13. The university took important steps to ensure the rink can safely re-open.

Tree removal for Engineering expansion project

January 15, 2024

As construction begins this month on the future Engineering and Computer Science Expansion (ECSE) and High Bay Research and Structures Lab (HBRSL) buildings, several trees will be removed from the site on Jan. 16 and 17.

Tree removal CARSA building and parking lot 7A

November 23, 2023

Tree removal will take place near Vikes Way and parking lot 7A in preparation for the construction of a new bike lane and pedestrian pathway near the Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities (CARSA), as part of the Campus Cycling Plan implementation.

Flag lowered in honour of Amanda Zoe Lu

November 20, 2023

The university flag will be lowered on Nov. 24 in honour of Zoe Lu, who passed away on Oct. 17 after a reoccurrence of an extremely aggressive form of cancer called triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Zoe was a longtime staff member of the Department of Sociology.

Campus hours for reading break and Remembrance Day

November 9, 2023

The UVic campus will be closed on Monday, Nov. 13 in recognition of Remembrance Day and the university flag will be lowered on Saturday, Nov. 11. Most campus services, including Advising, Office of the Registrar, the Student Union Building (SUB) and the Bookstore will be closed on Nov. 13.

Case of tuberculosis (TB) on campus

November 8, 2023

A member of the campus community has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB), a slow-growing bacterium that can affect the lungs. While the risk of transmission is low, UVic is working closely with Island Health on protocols to identify, screen and treat those who may have been exposed.

Flag lowered for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 28, 2023

On Sept. 29 and 30, the UVic flags will be lowered to pause, reflect and honour the children and survivors of residential schools, and acknowledge the lasting impacts that are felt to this day by their families and communities. UVic will be closed on Monday, Oct. 2 in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Campus road closure

September 28, 2023

Both lanes of Ring Road, University Drive, and the section of McGill Road between Ring Road and West Campus Way will be closed on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 9:30 a.m - 12:00 p.m.
