NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Local transportation agencies are preparing to release recommendations Monday morning aimed at improving traffic downtown as part of a ten-year plan.

From more bus routes to improved roadway signage, a lot is being considered to keep up with the demand that Nashville is experiencing.

Connect Downtown found that over the last ten years, the population in the downtown area has increased by 365%, which has led to heavy congestion.

In response, this plan was created to alleviate some of that congestion.

Among the things organizers are looking to do is move more people through public transportation. In the months leading up to today’s release, The Nashville Department of Transportation held a community forum where they spoke about the importance of the project.

“What we’ve focused on is how we can keep cars moving using adaptive signals, new technologies, converting some streets from one-way to two-way and vice versa,” one NDOT spokesperson said. “But also, we’ve really focused in on improving transit service in Nashville, and creating a connected bike and scooter network.”

Today’s meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. where NDOT will discuss the feedback they received from the community.
