WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The Senate killed the articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday.

Senate Democrats declared that both of the articles against Secretary Mayorkas, which claimed he did not enforce the country’s border laws, were unconstitutional.

The senators voted along party lines, with every Democrat voting to dismiss the articles and nearly every Republican opposing the dismals, with the exception of Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who voted present on the motion to dismiss the first article.

Republicans used several motions to try to keep the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas alive.

“We’ve been given this the sole exclusive power to try all impeachments. Try all impeachments, not some of them, not just those with which we happen to agree,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT).

“We’ve set a very unfortunate precedent here. This means that the Senate can ignore, in effect, the House’s impeachment,” said Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

But Democrats ultimately prevailed and dismissed the articles, with many calling the impeachment political theater.

“This House impeachment move is a stunt,” said Sen. Tim Kaine, (D-VA)

“What’s going on in the Senate is a charade. There’s no justification, no foundation, no basis,” said House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
