Transdisciplinary Education and Programs

New Mexico Tech has a number of transdisciplinary programs in areas of state and national need for education, research, and economic development. These programs address complex problems typically requiring substantial depth of understanding from multiple disciplines.

Transdisciplinary research and education integrates research the methods, theories, techniques, and perspectives of mutliple disciplines to develop new approaches to solve complex, real-world challenges.

New Mexico Tech has a long history of interdisciplinary research and development and with the increased national focus on research involving multiple disciplines, NMT is moving into the challenging arena of transdisciplinary programs. Sample research areas that benefit from transdisciplinary approaches include biotechnology, nanotechnology, renewable energy, and water resources. NMT's program developments for transdisciplinary research have already started in the area of biotechnology.
