Take I-17 north toward Flagstaff 98.4 miles. Take exit 298 and turn left onto Highway 179. Travel on Highway 179 14.2 miles to Highway 89A. There is traffic often, especially during the warmer months of the year. Expect slow driving speeds all the way through to Uptown and West Sedona. If possible, avoid driving from Phoenix to Sedona Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. The best time to travel is mid-week before 3pm, but even then you will likely hit traffic in Sedona during any daylight hours. 119 miles, 2 hours

Alternatively, if you are staying in West Sedona or if traffic necessitates, you can approach Sedona via Cottonwood. Take I-17 north toward Flagstaff 87 miles. At Camp Verde, take exit 287 for Highway 260 west toward Arizona 89A/Cottonwood. Follow Highway 260 12.4 miles. Turn right onto Highway 89A N and continue 18.5 miles into Sedona.

If you’re looking for the best way to get from Phoenix to Sedona, there are a few ways to get yourself between the two destinations depending on your transportation preferences and itinerary. First, you don’t have to fly into Phoenix if you are starting your journey in another state or country. Flying into Flagstaff Pullium Airport (FLG) is arguably way less stressful than flying into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), but is a certainly more scenic flight that lands you closer to Sedona than a flight to Phoenix Flagstaff Pullium Airport is less than 30 miles from Sedona and. there are connecting flights to Pullium from Phoenix (PHX), Denver, (DEN), Dallas Ft. Worth (DFW), and Los Angeles (LAX).

Phoenix to Sedona by Car

If you are starting in your journey in Phoenix, then renting a car in Phoenix and driving to Sedona is not only the best way to get between the two destinations, but having a car will allow you to enjoy the flexibility and freedom to experience much more of Sedona. Sedona doesn’t have much for public transportation, so having a your own car is certainly the way to go.

Phoenix to Sedona by Shuttle

Groome Shuttle is the most used van shuttle service for getting from multiple locations in Phoenix including Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to Sedona. It has a regular schedule with over 14 shuttles to Sedona each day. The cost is about $62 for a one-way trip and $108 for a round-trip ticket. You can get a $3-$5 discount by booking online on Groome Trasnportation's website. Once you’re in Sedona, many tour companies offer hotel pick-up or you can ask your concierge to schedule a taxi or car service. Depending on Ride-Shares like Uber and Lyft is not recommended. The traffic can be so bad in Sedona that it’s not worth it for drivers to provide service in this city, so you will be hard up to find a driver when you need one. You can hire a taxi by calling and scheduling a pick-up, but do not expect to hail one passing on the roads.

If the weather is good, begin taking I-17 south from Flagstaff. Just 2 miles south of the junction of I-40 and I-17, exit at Highway 89A (exit 337). This takes you on a breathtaking 25 mile drive through Oak Creek Canyon.

If it is snowing, take I-17 south from Flagstaff about 41 miles to State Highway 179. From there, go about 15 miles north on Highway 179 and you will enter Sedona. This route takes about an hour from Flagstaff to Sedona.

Take Highway 67 south directly to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park (Please note: the North Rim is only open mid-May through mid-October.)

Turn right at Pierce Ferry Road. Continue onto Diamond Bar Road. Turn left to stay on Diamond Bar Road. Continue straight onto Buck and Doe Road. Destination, the parking lot at Grand Canyon West Airport, will be on the right.
