First-year guarantee and deferral students

Current eligible high-school students in their graduating year can apply to live in dormitory housing at UVic. All dorm-style rooms include a residence meal plan.

Dormitory housing is available to first-year guarantee students. Please note that students who were approved for an admission deferral from the previous academic year (i.e. from Fall 2023 to Fall 2024) are considered first-year students for housing purposes.

Room types

Every single and double room contains the following for each student:

Single room - If you live in a single room, you will have the bedroom to yourself. See a single room layout or view 360 tours in the chart below. Single rooms range in size from ~ 100-130 sq. ft.

Double room -In a standard double room, you share the space with a roommate. See a standard double room layout or view 360 tours in the chart below. Double rooms range in size from ~ 180-210 sq. ft.

Please note: The community fostered in our traditional dormitory buildings helps to ease the transition to university, encourages a feeling of belonging among residents, and allows residents to focus on their studies. Living in a supportive campus environment has been shown to increase student success and retention as well as social connections with peers.

Cluster housing is prioritized for upper-year undergraduate students. As a first year student, you will not be able to select this room type as a preference in the housing application.

Students who require a specific room type that is not available to them because of their classification, and/or students who require specific features within a building or room, should submit a Priority Consideration Request

Buildings

UVic has 21 dormitory buildings (dorms) with a mixture of single and double rooms. Each building has shared common lounges, with cable TV and microwaves, and centrally located washrooms (either community and/or shared single washrooms) on each floor.

Most of our residence buildings are mixed gender, however some buildings feature designated single-gender floors.

Some of our buildings are also home to Living Learning Communities where you can apply to live with other students who share your academic or personal interests. These communities blend your residential and academic experiences. To be considered for a Living Learning Community, applicants will be asked to submit a supplemental application (as part of the housing application process).

Community Bathroom - A community bathroom is shared by multiple residents on one floor of a building. Community bathrooms include multiple sinks in an open area, multiple individual toilet stalls and multiple individual shower stalls. These bathrooms are cleaned by Residence Services staff.

Single User Bathroom - A single user bathroom is a small private lockable room containing a sink and toilet and/or a shower. In buildings with this style of bathroom, there are multiple single user bathrooms available on any floor.  These bathrooms are cleaned by Residence Services staff.
