Thesis & dissertation

Most graduate students write and defend a thesis or dissertation as part of their degree.

UVicSpace

After your defense, your thesis or dissertation is uploaded to the University of Victoria’s electronic collection. UVicSpace is like a virtual shelf of theses and dissertations on the library website.

Your work may attract publishers interested in publishing your work. In this case, you’ll likely want us to withhold your work from publication on UVicSpace.

Resources

There's a lot to know about planning your thesis, preparing to defend it and submitting it. Here are key resources for each step in the process.

Electronic theses & dissertations (ETD)

All theses and dissertations are submitted electronically to UVicSpace. Users can view the electronic theses and dissertations (ETD) collection on UVicSpace in the Faculty of Graduate Studies section.

Three Minute Thesis competition

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a competition developed by the University of Queensland. This contest challenges master’s and doctoral students to present their thesis and its significance in an accessible manner for a general audience. You will get just three minutes to present.

The competition challenges you to present complex research ideas in engaging, compelling ways.
