Professional development

Professional development complements academic and interdisciplinary knowledge. There are many opportunities for graduate students to engage in professional development at UVic.

Learning & Teaching in Higher Education (LATHE) Graduate Certificate

The LATHE Program prepares PhD students to be teaching faculty. This program combines knowledge about teaching and learning across the disciplines. This program will challenge you to reflect on your practical teaching and grow into an expert post-secondary teacher.

TA training & support

Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation (LTSI) offers professional development programs for teaching assistants and graduate students. These programs come in the form of workshops and online training modules. There are many training options that will prepare you to be a future faculty member.

UVic Teach Anywhere

The UVic Teach Anywhere site gives practical strategies for teaching online and relevant educational technology tools.  It provides guidance on five key areas:

Centre for Academic Communication

The Centre for Academic Communications offers one-on-one tutoring and workshops to help you become a more effective and efficient writer.

We're located on the main floor of the McPherson Library/Mearns Centre, at the end of the Learning Commons hallway.

Career services

UVic Co-op and Career Services offers a range of career development resources for graduate students. You can do co-operative education and access dedicated career resources and workshops.

Continuing Studies

The Division of Continuing Studies provides dynamic learning opportunities in adult and continuing education. These programs and courses offer a range of professional development and enrichment options. These online courses work around your schedule while you supplement your skills.
