MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WSMV) - Coffee County deputies determined a call for a possible homicide in the Toliver Lake Road area was a case of “swatting.”

Officers responded to the home after receiving a call about a possible homicide. Deputies secured the area and spoke with the home’s resident. After clearing the home and talking to the occupant, it was determined that this was a swatting call, according to the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office.

“These types of calls are malicious in nature and take valuable resources away from true emergency calls,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. “These types of calls also scare and terrorize unexpecting individuals as in the case of the lone young woman occupying this residence.”

The sheriff’s office said it takes these types of calls seriously and an investigation is ongoing to determine the origin and identity of the caller.

Tullahoma Police Chief Chase Sons and Assistant Chief Jason Kennedy were in the area and assisted in the response.

If anyone has information regarding this incident, contact the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at 931-728-3591 or your local law enforcement agency.
