NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Midstate pool contractor facing multiple felony theft charges tried to defend himself in a Maury County courtroom Thursday, but one victim WSMV4 Investigates spoke with doesn’t believe his story.
One of his alleged victims said she did not believe Randy Westerbeck when told a judge in court: “The kind of person I am... I would never be involved in what I am charged with.”
WSMV4 Investigates previously uncovered multiple people who say they paid Westerbeck to build a pool, but he never completed the project.
Jon Allen and Gene Hynok of Sumner County are among those who claim Westerbeck stole from them.
“It is going to be very difficult to trust people in the future,” Hynok said.
Judge David Allen appointed Westerbeck a public defender in the case. Westerbeck did not talk to WSMV4 Investigates following his arraignment but told the judge, “We had a failed business and ended up filing for bankruptcy which these charges stem from.”
Westerbeck will be back in Maury County for a court date in June. He is also facing charges in Lawrence and Wayne counties and has upcoming court appearances.
