NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMSV) – Metro Nashville Police have arrested the man they say is responsible for a road-rage shooting on Murfreesboro Pike on Thursday morning.
Police arrested David Bush, 22, of Antioch on Thursday night. A witness’ dash camera footage captured the victim’s vehicle being passed by a silver Impala in the middle turn lane shortly before a white Acura attempted to do the same.
But as the victim’s vehicle entered the middle turn lane, forcing the Acura to slow down, the driver swerves across lanes to get next to the victim’s vehicle before firing multiple shots out of the driver’s side window. The Acura then continued to drive inbound on Murfreesboro Pike.
Police said the victim was a 55-year-old man. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is now considered to be in stable condition.
The Acura, which had a temporary tag, was found Thursday afternoon on Took Drive. Bush was present and during an interview with detectives admitted to being the driver of the Acura on Thursday morning. He told detectives he was driving recklessly in an attempt to follow the Impala, driven by his girlfriend. Bush’s girlfriend was also interviewed by police and made similar statements.
Murfreesboro Pike was blocked off for more than two hours on Thursday morning as the Metro Police Crime Scene Unit worked to investigate the shooting.
Police said Bush was charged with attempted homicide and reckless endangerment for shooting within a vehicle. He is being held on $125,000 bond.
Yousuf Ahmad lives near where the shooting happened and drives this stretch of Murfreesboro Pike every day. He was shocked a possible road rage shooting happened here because he doesn’t think anything about the road makes it frustrating for drivers.
“Pretty crazy!” Ahmad said. “I am not sure why it is a road rage incident or something like that. That’s absolutely crazy. It’s a quiet neighborhood. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
He would like to see more police patrols and security cameras in the area to help catch the shooter, but said he is not scared to drive on Murfreesboro Pike after this incident.
