NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man who was released from jail on Tuesday after assaulting a woman in a Nashville elevator has been rearrested and charged with trying to kidnap a 15-year-old girl.
Jamien Taylor, 26, is charged with attempted kidnapping. On Friday morning, the Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet School student saw a man, later identified as Taylor, watch and then follow her after she got off a school bus on 17th Avenue North, according to a Metro Nashville Police Department media release.
The girl began running with Taylor in pursuit, police said, until she made it safely into her school and notified adults. Officers responded and took Taylor into custody. Taylor allegedly admitted to running after the student.
Taylor was released on a $3,000 bond on Tuesday with the help of the Community Bail Fund. While his bond is now set at $75,000, MNPD Chief John Drake said he remains concerned about how he was able to walk free and nearly harm another victim.
“The safety of our community should be a real consideration in the setting of bonds and pre-trial release conditions,” Drake said. “That should involve weighing the nature of offenses and the specific details alleged in arrest warrant affidavits. It’s no secret that our officers are dealing with the same people time and again.”
