Nashville chef dies after running in Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon

Police said the runner became unresponsive in the Shelby Park portion of the race.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Police confirmed that a man became unresponsive during the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on Saturday.

The runner is confirmed to be 26-year-old Joey Fecci, who worked as a chef in Nashville. The Yolan confirmed Fecci worked at the Joseph Hotel in Nashville until January 2024.

The St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series said Fecci was found unresponsive in the Shelby Park portion of the race and medical personnel performed CPR at the scene. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he passed away.

“It is with our deepest regret to confirm the death of a race participant at Saturday’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Nashville event. The runner received urgent medical attention by the on-site medical team before being transported to a nearby hospital where they sadly passed away. We appreciate the medical personnel who worked quickly to support the participant. We share our greatest sympathies with the family and friends of the race participant, and we will continue to offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Out of respect for the participant and their family we will have no further comment.”

The Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed the runner’s family was notified.
