NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Police are warning Nashvillians to be aware of an ongoing parking ticket scam.
Police say someone is putting fake parking tickets on vehicles downtown, which tell drivers they’ve parked illegally and must pay a fine.
The alleged scammers targeted the Midtown Hills area, which includes 12 South, Music Row and Midtown.
“I have unfortunately had quite a few times where I’ve come down here and I haven’t paid to park and I’ve gotten tickets that I’m assuming were real,” Andrew Perlowich, who parks downtown daily, said. “But now who knows. That is frustrating because it is one more hurdle that people are having to overcome.”
The printed tickets are labeled as ‘Metro Nashville Parking’ and include a QR code for people to pay the $25 or $50 dollar fine.
“Please note that MNPD and NDOT parking tickets look the same. Either of those fines will ONLY be paid online at www.circuitclerk.nashville.gov/traffic-violations-bureau/.”
Police warn to not pay fines through the fraudulent website, www.metronashvilleparking.com or to a Square account.
“Anyone that may have fallen victim to this scam or sees a ticket like this on their vehicle should call 615-862-8600 and report it to a Fraud Unit detective,” MNPD said.
