NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Many across Nashville are mourning the loss of beloved community leader, Barrington Moore, who died after Metro Police say he was shot by his 15-year-old cousin on Thursday night.

The youth instructor went to a short-term rental property on Youngs Lane to pick up his cousin at a party when a fight broke out between the two.

Prior to that, the teen had reportedly been hiding in the closet to avoid going home to adhere to his probation requirements.

“I’m heartbroken that he is no longer with us,” Larry Kantrell said about Moore.

The 31-year-old spent a lot of his time working with youth at Nashville Inner City Ministry. It’s a program that he has been apart of since he was a kid.

“In this particular case, it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to, but his efforts will always be a mindful thing that Barrington, even to his last day, was about relationships,” Kantrell said.

Investigators say the teen confessed to shooting his cousin. As a result, he is now facing criminal homicide charges.

As a community is left forever changed by this tragedy, they are taking solace in legacy that Moore now leaves behind.

“Even though his end seems to be tragic, he legacy is no tragedy,” Kantrell expressed. “It is a blessing for al of us to understand his love for God and love for mankind.”
