LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The University of Kentucky has officially announced the new head coach of the men’s basketball team.
UK has announced Mark Pope as the next head coach.
The decision comes after a highly publicized search for a new coach after former head coach John Calipari announced his resignation on Tuesday.
Pope was a member of Kentucky’s 1996 national championship team and has spent the past five seasons as the head coach at BYU where he took the Cougars to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances.
Prior to BYU, Pope was the head coach at Utah Valley.
