MONTEAGLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The driver of a tractor-trailer is facing charges after a fiery crash on I-24 that injured three people on Wednesday morning, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
The THP reported the tractor-trailer was traveling west on I-24 and left the roadway, overturning on its driver’s side at about 4:54 a.m.
This caused two large equipment tires being hauled to break loose and travel into the eastbound lanes. The tractor-trailer eventually slid to an uncontrolled rest blocking both lanes of travel, according to THP.
That’s when a Dodge Ram 3500 and a Nissan Titan struck one of the tires blocking the lane. The Dodge was able to come to a stop, but the Nissan lost control and traveled into an embankment, THP said.
Shortly after, another tractor-trailer stuck the other tire in the roadway, traveled off the roadway and struck a guardrail.
The driver of the Nissan and both tractor-trailers were injured in this crash. Charges of reckless driving are pending against 60-year-old Tomas Carl Storch, of Texas, who was driving the tractor-trailer that initially overturned.
The extent of the injuries involved is unknown at this time.
