NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Tennessee’s dry air is playing a role if you’re dealing with dry skin in mid-March.
When it’s cold outside, fluids that hydrate your respiratory tract can evaporate quickly leaving your airways vulnerable to irritation. The same thing can happen to the moisture found in your skin.
Dry skin and dry lips usually indicate the air is dry. Washing your hands without moisturizing afterward, taking hot showers, and using certain medications can lead to dry and cracked skin.
Dry air can worsen health issues and even cause certain others to develop.
If the dew point (a measure of how much moisture is in the air) drops, this can be a telltale sign that the air is going to be dry. In the spring and summer, the dew point is usually higher which is why there are fewer issues with dry air during warmer months.
