GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that troopers are investigating after a parking attendant was hit by a car in a downtown Greenville parking garage on Thursday.

Troopers said the incident happened around 3:04 p.m. at the parking garage located at 320 N. Church Street.

According to troopers, the driver was trying to exit the parking garage when they struck the attendant. Troopers stated that the attendant was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries following the incident. Her condition has not been released.

Troopers added that the attendant was an employee with the City of Greenville.

Witness Tina Ruffner says she and her fiancé were searching for a park Thursday to attend a graduation. When they pulled up to the Church Street garage, she saw a confrontation.

“The parking attendant was yelling at [the driver] telling her to slow down and turn around. And the lady in the van yelled ‘I’m not paying’ and she tried to flip a [U-turn] and made a wide turn and hit the wall so she backed up and knocked over cones and almost hit the parking attendant then and she jumped out of the way,” said Ruffner.

Ruffner says next, the driver did hit the attendant multiple times.

“It was very horrific. I was right on the other side of the ticket booth and I could see the lady like three feet from me being drug under the car,” she said.

Ruffner says another car blocked the exit, preventing the driver from leaving. Then she and other witnesses called 911.

“I just couldn’t fathom how someone could do that to another person,” she said. “There’s no absolutely no doubt in my mind that this woman did this intentionally, this was no accident.”

Troopers said on Friday afternoon that charges are pending in the case.
