EASLEY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A woman whose life was cut short in a shooting outside her work was laid to rest on Friday.

A service for Katy Jones, 36, was held at the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.

Jones’ father, Larry Strickland, said she was a registered nurse who worked for 10 years in labor and delivery at AnMed. She attended 5 Point Church and High Praises Church.

She was also a nail technician and a supervisor at NRTC Automation.

“She loved her job at NRTC,” Strickland said. “She tried to help anyone who came through as temps, she would talk to him about the job and what the responsibilities were She would train them. She would talk to him about the Lord and if they need help, she would recommend that they see a psychiatrist or go to a rehab service.”

Jones was sitting in her car in the parking lot of NRTC on May 17 when investigators said she was shot by a former coworker.

Strickland said he believes more safety protocols should be implemented at the company.

“The plant’s responsibility to the permanent employees is to have locked doors with badges or fences or some kind of security,” he said.

The South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident.
