GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Belton-Honea Path High is celebrating after the softball team won the 3A State Championship 9-8 over Aynor at White Knoll High in Lexington, S.C. They finish the season 34-5.

The Bears took down the defending state champions after Aynor forced a game three Thursday night on their home field.

The championship looked like it was going Aynor’s way early but BHP fought back from a six-run deficit to rally and claim their first state title in program history.

The Bears turned to freshman Addie Vaughn in the circle Friday night. She shut down the Blue Jackets through the last four innings and also played a role in the offensive attack for BHP, with a two-run home run in the five-run rally fourth-inning rally.

The Blue Jackets have now made the state championship series three straight seasons, finishing runner-up in two of three of those trips. They finish the season 23-6.
