WHERE TO WATCH ICYMI – Watch last week’s episode.

Doctors of Defense – Transparency: New developments in a years-long investigation digging into medical malpractice in the military system. In a new installment of Doctors of Defense, our team is pulling back the curtain even further to detail what happens when service members or their families are hurt or killed at the hands of military doctors - with help from a whistleblower who came forward to share confidential documents after seeing our story. Joce Sterman sits down with a powerful Senator who also weighs in on our findings, calling for transparency about problematic physicians & the taxpayer money spent on their mistakes. We also highlight a new government report that finds the Defense Health Agency is failing to take basic steps to protect service members and the public - and interview a family that had to battle for information about malpractice at a Navy hospital that they claim killed their son.

Doctors of Defense – Government Response: After our national investigative team spent two years digging into malpractice in the military – the agency overseeing the healthcare system for service members finally agreed to sit down and answer questions for the first time about the hundreds of military doctors disciplined, the lack of transparency that shields those providers from public view and the hundreds of millions spent on malpractice claims. National investigative reporter Joce Sterman sits down with the Chief Medical Officer of the Defense Health Agency, holding the DHA accountable for its secrecy on behalf of service members and families harmed in the military system. Note: You need not have run the previous stories to air this – it will be written to stand alone.

No Surprises Act: If you have an emergency or sudden illness you can’t always control who is involved in your care. This could land you with what’s known as a “surprise medical bill” – essentially the difference between the out-of-network provider’s bill and the amount your health insurance paid. Cassidy Williams in Connecticut takes a look at a federal law that could potentially wipe away an unwanted bill and hears from a mother whose daughter was hit with a nearly $10,000 surprise.

Watching Your Wallet – Tackling America’s Retirement Crisis: A recent AARP survey finds one in five Americans over 50 have no retirement savings. In this Watching Your Wallet, Consumer Investigator Caresse Jackman explores the ways you can start saving for retirement, one dollar at a time.
