Applying to Family Housing

Before applying, ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements for UVic Family Housing and have reviewed all information on this page regarding the application and waitlist processes.

How and when to apply

Before you begin your application, make sure you have your NetLink ID and an email address that you will use for at least the next 12 months.

You will need to pay the non-refundable $50 application fee by credit or debit card. This fee is paid online as part of the application process.

The Family Housing application is open year-round. We recommend that you apply as soon as possible, prior to your desired occupancy date, to increase your chances of success. Please note that the waitlist for Family Housing is approximately 16-24 months from the time of submitting an application.

Accommodation preferences

When you apply, you will be able to select up to three unit type preferences.

In order to be considered for your selected unit preference(s), ensure that your family size is within the occupancy range for that unit type. If your family configuration does not meet the occupancy range criteria, you will not be considered for that unit type.

We suggest that applicants select as many unit preferences as possible, to increase their opportunities to receive a unit offer.

After I apply - waitlist process

Applicants will be placed onto the Family Housing waitlist, which is approximately 16-24 months.

Unit offers are based on availability. Applicants will be notified when they are next on the waitlist and a unit is available. Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria in order to qualify for a unit offer.

Applications will remain active for a maximum of two years. Within those two years, and subject to availability, you may receive a maximum of two unit offers. If both offers are declined, your application will be cancelled.

Family Housing applications that are inactive will be cancelled. Applications may be considered inactive if:

  • An applicant is not enrolled at UVic after their requested arrival date, or
  • An applicant does not respond to emails regarding their enrolment status and/or requests to update their Family Housing application details.

Cancellations

If you no longer want to be considered for Family Housing, please cancel your application in the Housing Portal. On the Application Status page, look for the “Cancel Application” option. Please note that the $50 application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

If the Student cancels their reservation after accepting a unit offer and making the deposit payment ($750), $500 will be held by the University as a charge for the canceled agreement.
