The Faculty of Education supports outstanding teaching and research, immersive educational experiences and a vibrant campus life. Our undergraduate programs will prepare you for a career in a range of educational fields.

Our programs

Choose from options for major and minor programs that lead to BA, BEd and BSc degrees across several educational disciplines.

Whether you're interested in becoming a teacher, looking to bolster your degree with a minor in education, or seeking foundational electives in leadership, you'll find interesting course offerings that are designed with today's societal needs in mind.

Teacher education programs

Do you have dreams of leading your own classroom? Our Teacher Education programs are the right place for you. Learn how to teach with confidence in our cohort-based teacher training program, and get your feet wet with a local or international teaching practicum.

Indigenous programs

We offer programs designed to foster a deeper understanding of First Nations, Inuit and Métis histories, cultures, and ways of knowing and being. We partner with First Nations communities to offer language programming from certificates to Baccalaureates in language proficiency and revitalization.

Minor programs

Whether you're doing a degree in education or in another field, the Faculty of Education offers four minor programs to support and expand your learning.

Co-operative education

At UVic, learning extends beyond the classroom! Through co-operative education (co-op), you can alternate terms in class with paid work terms in your field of study. Co-op is mandatory for Recreation and Health Education (BA) students. While co-op is optional for Physical and Health Education (BA) and Kinesiology (BSc), the program’s hands-on work experience is beneficial and we encourage you to apply.

Professional development

Are you interested in developing your skills, advancing your career or upgrading to a higher teacher salary? Continuing Studies in Education offers programs and non-accredited courses including professional development opportunities for teachers, such as the French immersion teacher Pro-D, a Diploma in Intercultural Education and much more.
