Deadly house fire under investigation in Putnam County

One firefighter suffered minor injuries while engaging the house fire on Walnut Road.

BAXTER, Tenn. (WSMV) - A woman is dead after a house caught fire in Putnam County on Thursday night.

The Putnam County Fire Department responded to a residential fire around 9:20 p.m. on Walnut Road and arrived to find the house engulfed in flames. Firefighters learned one person was still inside the house and quickly made entry through a window to extract the person.

They successfully removed a woman from the burning house and medical personnel immediately began life-resuscitating efforts as she was without a pulse. Medics were able to regain a pulse and stabilize her for transport but the pulse was lost again and the woman was pronounced deceased.

One Putnam County firefighter suffered minor injuries during the incident and was taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for evaluation and was later released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Tennesse Bureau of Investigation is assisting. Baxter Fire Department also responded and assisted at the scene.
