TODAY & TONIGHT:

Today is a First Alert Weather Day.

Sunshine will gradually return to the Mid State today after morning showers and storms exit. Temperatures will climb through the 70s, into the low-mid 80s.

Late this afternoon and early this evening, a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms will develop. That said, many areas will have a dry afternoon and evening making for nice weather at a pool or the lake. Remember, if you hear thunder, head indoors for 30 minutes before venturing back outside.

Tonight looks variably cloudy. Toward sunrise Sunday, isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible once again.

SUNDAY -- SEVERE STORMS LIKELY LATE:

Sunday is a First Alert Weather Day.

A few areas of showers and thunderstorms will be possible early Sunday.

During the mid morning, a gusty southwest wind will develop. Wind gusts of 25 - 35 mph will be possible during the late morning through afternoon. Reconsider plans to go boating unless you have experience doing so in windy weather.

Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening, scattered strong to severe storms will develop northwest of Nashville and begin to settle southeastward. All severe hazards will be possible -- hail, damaging wind gusts, isolated tornadoes, and even localized flooding. This batch of late day storms could develop as soon as 2 pm over southwest Kentucky and 6 pm in Nashville. There are also indications that storm development will hold off until dinnertime over southwest Kentucky and 9-10 pm in Nashville. Because of this timing uncertainty, be ready for storms by mid afternoon. Monitor for new developments and/or changes on the First Alert Weather app.

Showers and strong to severe storms will settle southeastward through the Mid State Sunday night, occasionally producing severe weather.

MEMORIAL DAY:

Monday will start off with showers and thunderstorms exiting to the southeast.

While there could be an additional shower with a cold front during the late morning in Nashville, the general trend on Monday will be for improving weather.

Nashville’s rain chance will be 30%.

TUESDAY & BEYOND:

An isolated shower is possible with a reinforcing front on Tuesday.

Otherwise, Tuesday through Friday of next week looks much drier and brighter.
