NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Nashville Police said six people were injured due to gunfire near a busy Antioch intersection early Sunday morning.

Police officers were working a special assignment at 476 Bell Road when a call for service was received concerning people in the area who were arguing and armed with guns. While those officers were responding, they heard gunshots across the street near the PMEx Market at 469 Bell Road. Officers turned to go to investigate and then heard shots coming from behind them. Officers turned around and saw Erik Williams, who was armed with a handgun.

According to the affidavit, Williams saw the officers and began to run, throwing the gun away. Officers chased down Williams and retrieved the handgun.

Police said a total of six people were injured due to the gunfire that Williams contributed to.

“Based on the distance from where Williams was seen with a handgun, it is unknown if any of those victims were struck by his reckless gunfire,” officers said in the arrest affidavit. “However, the vicinity which Williams was firing into was densely populated with people on foot as well as a busy intersection with multiple vehicles coming and going.”

Police said all those injured had non-critical injuries.

Williams was charged with six counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and one count of being a felon in possession of a handgun, police said.

The gunfire took place in the vicinity of the Soho Bar on Bell Road, near the intersection with Murfreesboro Pike.
