NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Morgan Wallen’s new Broadway bar will not open this weekend as originally planned.

Wallen announced at one of Nissan Stadium shows that the Fourth Avenue bar, dubbed This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen, would open on Memorial Day weekend. Bar management now says the opening will have to wait.

“We’re proud of our team who has worked tirelessly to prepare Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen for opening. The ground-up construction of a six-story venue launching with hundreds of team members is a tremendous amount of work and a complex process,” the bar’s team said in a statement. “When we open, we want This Bar to be an exceptional experience for guests. Unfortunately, the process requires more time, and we are not able to open and provide that experience this Memorial Day weekend.”

The decision to hold off on the opening comes after Metro Nashville voted against approving the bar’s sign. The 4th Avenue Property LLC needed approval from Metro Nashville Council to move forward with the construction and installation of the 20-foot-tall bar sign. Instead, 30 of 37 Metro Council members voted against the resolution.

The decision at Tuesday night’s meeting came after multiple council members said they were concerned about Wallen’s past incidents in Nashville, including being arrested for throwing a chair off the top of another Broadway bar and using a racial slur.

Still, the management team said it is working to open the bar soon. The team insists the delay is not related to Metro Council’s denial of the sign permits.

The Metro Beer Board confirms it has not approved a catering or temporary beer permit for the bar at this time because they still lack approval from the fire marshal and Metro Codes department.

“Rest assured it will be well worth the wait,” the team said. “We look forward to welcoming guests soon.”
