NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Two people are facing charges in part of an investigation into Medicaid fraud by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The TBI said agents arrested Johnny Ray Brooks and Ashley Marie Harrell in connection to the theft scheme involving Medicaid funds. The investigation began in June 2023 after the TBI received information from the Tennessee Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services.

Agents determined that Brooks and Harrell submitted fraudulent information to obtain payment for caregiver services that were never provided.

On May 14, a Coffee County grand jury returned indictments charging the duo with one count each of TennCare Fraud and Theft.

Both were booked into the Coffee County Jail, each on a $15,000 bond.
