Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor Course: Still looking good in Scottsdale
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Raptor Course, which opened in 1995, is the second of two championship layouts at Grayhawk Golf Club.
Designed by Tom Fazio, the course stretches to 7,135 yards from the back tees as it weaves its way through the Sonoran Desert. In the background are the majestic saguaros, Ironwood and mesquite trees and the McDowell Mountains.
Both courses at Grayhawk have played host to professional tour events. Raptor was the host site of the Frys.com Open, a Fall Series PGA Tour event, from 2007-09. Other events held on Raptor included the inaugural Williams World Challenge, and the semifinals and finals of the Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf (now the Accenture).
Raptor's fairways are generous, but in typical Fazio fashion the course is strewn with bunkers both in the fairways and around the greens. Speaking of the greens, they're large and undulating. Water comes into play on a few holes, including the par-5 18th.
