Media Studies is an interdisciplinary program with over 50 members from UVic Libraries and 19 units across the Faculties of Humanities, Fine Arts, Social Sciences and Engineering and Computer Science. The program also houses a research lab called the Praxis Studio.
Jentery Sayers directs Media Studies, and he works with Stella Chan in our program's general office to administer the Media Studies certificate.
The following UVic faculty members are teaching Media Studies courses in 2024-25.
Our program committee reviews our curriculum and the courses we offer. A librarian, a Media Studies staff member, an undergraduate student, two community representatives and faculty members in the Humanities, Fine Arts and Social Sciences serve on the committee each year.
Please email adminmdia@uvic.ca if you would like a list of all our program members.
Jentery Sayers established the Praxis Studio (formerly the Maker Lab in the Humanities) in 2012 with support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the B.C. Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF). The Studio specializes in game studies, sound studies and video essays. Email the Studio at praxis@uvic.ca to learn more about how to get involved in their research.
