Amicus: Latin for Friendship – Let’s Talk Student Support

In this webinar, you will learn about our Amicus Program. It is a unique UVic Law student support initiative that plays an active role in engaging, advising and supporting students during their law school journey. There are four overlapping components in the program: academic success, cultural support, personal support and accommodation support. These components work in conjunction and collaboration with each other to ensure your overall success in law school. Hear from the support program staff who each specialize in their particular area of student support and from upper year law students who provide tutoring services. We will provide answers to common questions as well as those you anonymously submit.

Housing: The Students’ Perspective | March 18 - 9:30 - 10:30 AM (PDT)

Hi, future UVic Law students! We have heard from many of you that you have questions and concerns about finding housing for fall in Victoria. On Monday March 18 at 9:30, we will host a webinar to answer your questions. We will have some information about on campus housing, and three current students will be there to share their experiences with finding housing.

Please note that the webinar will be recorded for later viewing, though students will only be available to answer questions during the recording.

The Inclusive Admission Stream | September 18 6:00 - 7:00 PM (PDT)

The Inclusive Admission Stream and UVic Law’s approach to admission through the Inclusive Stream are unique. Knowing how to navigate the application process can be tricky. On the evening of September 18 (6-7pm Pacific), 2L JD student Elaine and 2L JD/JID student Rosemary join the Admissions Team in a webinar to talk about her experiences in applying for admission under the Inclusive Stream. The Black Admission Stream | September 20 6:00 - 7:00 PM (PDT)

UVic Law Admissions is pleased to announce our newest admission stream. The Black Admission Stream was created to respond to historic and ongoing inequities by intentionally admitting more Black law students. Join Uvic Law Admissions Committee Chair Rob Lapper and Professor Asad Kiyani in a discussion about the new admission stream. The live webinar will take place September 20 from 6-7pm Pacific.

Personal Statements | September 25 6:00 - 7:00 PM (PDT)

Of all of the questions UVic Law Admissions gets from potential applicants, the most common is about personal statements. It’s a process to write one, and writing a strong personal statement is the most difficult part of the application process for many applicants. A panel of current 1L Uvic Law students join the Admissions Team in a webinar to talk about the process of writing a strong personal statement. Hear about their experiences, along with what UVic Law is looking for. The live webinar will take place Monday September 25 from 6-7pm Pacific. We look forward to seeing you there!

Uvic Law’s Director, Indigenous Initiatives will lead a discussion with a panel of Indigenous UVic Law students on Indigenous perspectives in applying for law school. This live webinar will explore the Indigenous Admission Stream, as well as application to the JD/JID program. The live webinar will take place on October 4 from 6-7pm Pacific.

Which Application Stream is Right for Me? | October 16 - 6:00 - 7:00 PM (PDT)

With four admission streams and two programs, navigating which to apply to can be difficult and confusing. Join the Admissions Team, Associate Dean Andrew Newcombe, and Admission Committee Chair Rob Lapper to help take some of the mystery out of the process. This webinar will be held Monday, October 16 from 6-7pm Pacific. While a recorded version will be available, the live webinar will have a question and answer period.
