SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (WMSV) – A Shelbyville woman is facing felony charges following an investigation into whether she took advantage of a “vulnerable adult,” according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Mary Ann Pruitt, 81, was indicted Monday by the Bedford County Grand Jury on two charges, including financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult and one count of theft. She was booked into the Bedford County jail on Wednesday.
TBI began investigating Pruitt on March 20, 2023, after receiving information from the Tennessee Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services.
During the TBI’s investigation, agents determined Pruitt was in possession of a debit card belonging to a former tenant of her residence, who was a TennCare recipient. The TBI said she used the victim’s debit card to withdraw cash and spend money across several counties over a period of about two years.
Pruitt was held on a $25,000 bond.
