NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A mom is demanding justice after her 12-year-old son on his bike was struck by a car that fled just before police arrived.

Alicia Riley said people constantly speed down 14th Avenue North, and the situation seems to be getting worse.

“What’s about to happen?” Joesiah Carter said. It’s the last thing he remembered before being struck.

“I was nervous because I didn’t think I was going to be able to walk,” Carter said.

The video shows Joesiah fly off his bike, fall to the ground, and seconds later, lie down in the grass.

“I’m angry because they stopped for a second, but then they left,” Riley said.

Riley said she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

“I was just distraught because I was scared for my son’s life,” Riley said. “I didn’t know if he was hurt if he had a concussion, if he hit his head or anything.”

At first, the driver can be seen getting out of the car and checking on Joesiah. A neighbor called 911 and ran out to help. When police began to pull up to the scene, the car drove off.

“My son could have lost his life. It’s heartbreaking,” Riley said.

Riley said doctors said Joesiah had a sprained leg and a few scratches.

“That’s my only son. I didn’t know what was going on, and I’m shaken up about it,” Riley said. “The police took my report and said they had also gotten another report about this as well. I gave them this video, and they said they’re going to follow up on it and try to catch them.

While Joesiah heals, neighbors hope something like this doesn’t happen again.

Metro Nashville police are searching for the driver involved in the crash.
