NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - New mixed-income apartments are now open in Nashville.

Metro officials cut the ribbon on the new Cherry Oak Apartments on Thursday. The apartments are located on South Sixth Street in the Cayce Place area.

The apartments feature 96 units, including 45 for current Cayce Place residents.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell said this is the latest step in developing affordable housing in Nashville.

“This started as a conversation with neighbors, and I hope that what we are building today shows that all of these partners who are gathered together have been listening and are now doing,” O’Connell said.

O’Connell said the next project will be Park Point East, which will bring 400 new affordable homes.

Altogether, the Cayce Place project will add close to 2,400 new homes along with a grocery store and pharmacy.

In addition, there are two waiting lists open now for affordable housing in Nashville. The wait lists are open for Shelby House and Chestnut Hill. The wait lists opened Tuesday and will remain open until 1 p.m. on April 1. To get on the list, you have to meet the eligibility requirements.
