Wireless Services

There are two services available at Carleton: CU-Wireless and Eduroam.  Wireless at Carleton is free for students, faculty and staff.  Affiliates/guests sponsored by a faculty or staff member can get an account at no cost.

Wireless is currently available in key locations across campus. Wireless signs are posted.  All you need is a laptop or PDA with a Wi-Fi compatible network interface card and a MyCarletonOne account.

For help connecting to the Wireless networks, please visit our Online Help Centre.

ResNet

Each residence room is equipped with an Ethernet jack (one per occupant) to allow access to the Internet via ResNet. Internet access through ResNet is provided with the room at no additional charge.

The Residence network provides connectivity to all students from their dorm rooms. This service allows access to the Internet and to some computing resources on campus.

The residence network infrastructure is in place and maintained on a continuous basis.

Students use the network by authenticating with their MyCarletonOne Account, which is provided upon registration and must be activated. Maintenance activities and problem troubleshooting are initiated and reported via the ITS Service Desk.

When connecting to the ResNet be sure to protect your computer from viruses.

Firewalls

ITS is responsible for the management of the enterprise network firewalls. In order to properly maintain the security of the Carleton University network infrastructure, the configuration of rules on ITS-managed network firewalls must be properly maintained.

Network Services

Network Services is responsible for the continuing maintenance, security and evolution of the ever-growing campus network.  Visit our network services rates page for pricing on services.

The Network Operations Centre (NOC) is where we monitor and ensure that the campus enterprise network and services are operating as engineered at optimum performance. Assessment, troubleshooting and resolution of malfunctions is detected by network monitoring tools. For more information, check out our Incident Management Process Diagram.

The NOC operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
