Carleton students, faculty, staff and alumni are provided with a Carleton email account.
Beware of phishing emails! If you receive an email from an address you don’t recognize, your first thought should be: is this email legitimate? But know that malicious emails can also come from an address that you do recognize – perhaps their account got hacked and is now being used to spam people.
If you receive a phishing email do not respond to it. Move it to your junk folder (this will mark it as spam), and forward it to the ITS Service Desk. We then flag the email in the Office 365 filter system, which then marks it as spam for other users. If the phishing email contains a link to a website, we report that website to Google and the web host (if available).
Student Email
Carleton’s Student Email, powered by Microsoft’s Office 365, features 50 GB of storage, advanced search features and great mobile support. As a student, this is your official Carleton email address that the university uses to communicate important information to you.
- firstnamelastname@cmail.carleton.ca
For help setting up your Carleton Email on your computer and on your phone, visit our Online Help Centre.
Faculty and Staff Email
Exchange for Faculty and Staff, hosted by Microsoft’s Office 365 Cloud, features 50 GB of storage, spam and malware blocking, mobile support, and more.
- Webmail address: Exchange.carleton.ca, sign-in with your MC1 account and password.
- Your real email address is firstnamelastname@cunet.carleton.ca
- You will also receive emails addressed to your staff/faculty email alias: firstname.lastname@carleton.ca.
- Deleted emails can be recovered from the Deleted Items folder within 30 days. In Outlook 365 go to the Deleted Items folder and select the ‘Recover items deleted from this folder’. Select the necessary email messages and click the Restore button to restore the deleted messages to the source location (emails deleted from the Inbox folder will be recovered to the Inbox folder).
For help setting up your email on your computer or phone, and adding a shared mailbox, visit our Online Help Centre.
Request A Departmental Email Address
If you require an Email address for your department/team or event, Staff and Faculty can request a new Email address using the Customer Portal
Campaign Monitor
Carleton University has licensed Campaign Monitor, an easy-to-use email marketing platform, for use by communicators, marketers and those looking to send bulk mailings across campus, as an enterprise application. You can request access to Campaign Monitor, and view resources and training documents, by visiting the internal Campaign Monitor website.
Lyris Email List Service
The Lyris Listserv is a service provided to all faculty, staff, departmental administrators and students for the purpose of teaching, researching, studying and to deliver effective communications.
At Carleton University, the Lyris ListManager is used primarily to distribute messages and send out announcements to the client community (e.g. faculty-staff list). It is also used to communicate with other specific segments of the community (e.g. course mailing lists, etc.).
For help using the Lyris email list service, visit our Online Help Centre.
Reducing Email Spam
Spam is unsolicited e-mail sent to many people. It is the electronic equivalent of the junk mail that is delivered to your home each week. Most spam is commercial advertising, get rich quick schemes or shady services with the sender paying very little of the actual e-mail delivery cost. Spam is usually sent from a fake e-mail address making it difficult to trace.
At ITS we provide filtering of incoming spam e-mail messages on Carleton University’s primary e-mail gateway.
Here are some tips to help you reduce the amount of spam you get in your inbox.
Add to Calendar
Have you ever organized an event, webinar or workshop and then been dismayed when only half the invitees show up because they forgot to add your event to their calendars as a reminder?
Why not make it easy for your invitees by adding an “Add to Calendar” link to your event announcement! Here are three options to do this.
